Edmonton to consider $100M for bike lanes

Edmonton is a beautiful city. I was there almost a year ago to visit my brother and had a chance to explore the city’s streets and parks. The downtown is perched above a lovely river valley and parkland abounds. The city is almost surprising for its beauty and vitality– being from Toronto, I guess Edmonton always looks so far north.

So I was not surprised to read this story about a new plan for bike lanes that council will be considering soon. New bike lanes are good news for any city, but it must be no ordinary challenge to convince other councillors that $100M in bike lanes and paths is a good investment in a city with winter 6-8 months a year. I for one hope the proponents are successful, but it already sounds like they will be running into some severe opposition.
