Subways to scale

You know how I love maps.

Well this isn’t really a map, but more of a pictoral representation. Still, it almost falls into the map category.

At this link, you’ll find a page showing major subway systems of the world to scale to each other. This is awesome, because often I find it difficult to understand how (in)adequate Toronto’s subway is. (Whether or not LRT/streetcar should be included in the system map is a question for another day). Toronto’s layout looks quite odd compared to most, like it was put in a straight-jacket. Also recognizable about many of the systems is the prevalence of “loop” lines. Toronto, if you want to get technical, only has one. Anyway, hat tip to American artist/urban planner (a truly inspiring mix) Neil Freeman.
